Hello!
I’m Clare Jones, a documentary filmmaker & photographer specialising in natural history, conservation and adventure storytelling. Driven by a strong interest to protect the natural world, I’ve spent the past ten years working on some of TV’s most popular natural history programmes for the BBC Natural History Unit, SKY, National Geographic, Channel 4 and more. A multi-skilled shooting producer-director, I’ve led complex international shoots in some of the most remote parts of our planet, filmed never before seen animal behaviours, and created strong character-led stories that educate, entertain and inspire. I tell stories that empower audiences through emotionally driven narratives and imagery, blending high-production value filming techniques with the art of story-telling, showcasing real human experiences in the great outdoors.
Some of the kit I shoot on regularly include RED Gemini/Raptor & CN20, Sony FX6 and A7Siii cameras. I also specialise in high speed filming, having plenty of hours shooting on both the Phantom Flex 4k and Phantom VEO (long lens and macro). I’ve used a variety of heavy-duty jibs, gimbals such as the RSiii and am a CAA drone pilot. I’ve worked in all sorts of environments from -30C in the arctic to +42C in the Sahara, filming a variety of subjects from tiny Japanese flying squirrels to African elephants using long lens, high-speed, thermal and macro camera rigs. I’ve also got lots of experience directing and filming people, including presenter-led pieces and interviews involving lighting set ups and sound recording.
My free time is usually spent obsessing over my other passions in life; climbing, occasionally mountain biking or hiking with friends (and bonus cute doggo’s!).
I love taking on new projects and challenges working across a range of formats and genres, so if you have an idea or story you’d like to explore, please go ahead and drop me a line.
